A Life Devoted to Community, Culture, and Service
Ehsan Shahid Choudhry is a distinguished British-Pakistani community leader, humanitarian, poet, author, and public speaker whose life reflects an enduring commitment to service, cultural preservation, and social responsibility. Born in 1964 in Mian Channu, Pakistan, he received his early education in his hometown and later attended Government Degree College, Mian Channu. His late father, Ghulam Mohammad Choudhry, was a respected businessman who owned a government construction company. Although Ehsan moved to the United Kingdom in 1990, his bond with Pakistan has remained unwavering. He continues to visit his homeland regularly, maintaining close ties with family and friends while actively participating in charitable and humanitarian initiatives.
humanity.
Alongside his community work, Ehsan Shahid Choudhry has earned recognition as a gifted poet, prose writer, and author of several books. His literary voice reflects a deep appreciation for culture, humanity, and social harmony. Over the years, he has represented his community at numerous international conferences, participating as both a delegate and speaker, where he has promoted dialogue, understanding, and cooperation across cultures.
His professional journey began with entrepreneurship. Shortly after arriving in Britain, he established Bari Shop N Save, a successful grocery business that became a valued part of the local community. He later expanded his business interests by opening Bari Cash and Carry and subsequently founded Far East Motors, an automobile import business. These ventures not only demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit but also strengthened his understanding of the diverse communities he served.
While his business achievements are noteworthy, it is his dedication to public service that truly defines his legacy. Since 1995, Ehsan has served as a Trustee and Volunteer with the Halal Food Authority, helping ensure that halal food standards meet both Islamic principles and the legal requirements of the United Kingdom. His work has contributed significantly to maintaining public confidence in halal certification and consumer protection.
His commitment to civic engagement extends well beyond faith-based initiatives. In 2003, he participated in the Hounslow–Lahore Town Twinning Programme, working to strengthen friendship, cultural exchange, and international cooperation between the two cities. During the same period, he became a member of the London Borough of Hounslow Police Consultative Group, where, for several years, he represented community interests, encouraged dialogue between the police and local residents, and promoted safer, more inclusive neighbourhoods.
Throughout his life, Ehsan Shahid Choudhry has believed that meaningful change begins with compassion, trust, and active community involvement. Whether through business, literature, humanitarian work, or public service, he has consistently sought to build bridges between people of different backgrounds and inspire a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect.
His journey is a testament to the idea that success is measured not only by personal achievements but by the positive impact one leaves on others. Today, Ehsan Shahid Choudhry continues to dedicate his time and energy to serving communities, promoting cultural understanding, and encouraging future generations to embrace the values of kindness, integrity, and service to humanity.

Dignity, kindness, and hope for all
Everything I do—whether through humanitarian work or poetry—comes from the same belief: every human being deserves dignity, kindness, and hope. My charity work allows me to help people in practical ways, whether that means providing food to someone who is hungry, supporting a family in crisis, or simply reminding a lonely person that they are not forgotten. Seeing the relief and gratitude in someone’s eyes is one of the most rewarding experiences in life.

Giving a voice to emotions and dreams
Poetry helps me reach people’s hearts. It gives a voice to emotions, struggles, and dreams that many people find difficult to express. Through words, I can share stories of resilience, compassion, and humanity. For me, humanitarian work feeds the body, while poetry feeds the soul. Together, they help build stronger, kinder communities where people feel valued and connected. What matters most is not recognition or awards, but knowing that even a small act of kindness can make a profound difference.
"His commitment to public service has become an inspiration for many people."

Restoring dignity and human connection
One experience that has stayed with me for many years happened through our Open Kitchen initiative in West London. It perfectly illustrates why I believe humanitarian work is not just about providing food or material support—it is about restoring dignity, hope, and human connection. Several years ago, a middle-aged man began visiting Open Kitchen regularly. He was homeless, unemployed, and completely isolated from his family. Like many people facing difficult circumstances, he carried an invisible burden of loneliness and hopelessness. At first, he would quietly collect a meal and leave without speaking to anyone. He rarely made eye contact and seemed reluctant to engage with volunteers or other visitors.
